What’s involved in installing motion sensing lighting?

Work out what you want to illuminate

We start by understanding what you’re trying to achieve, whether that’s illuminating a driveway, covering a side entrance, lighting the path to your front door or improving visibility around a particular part of the property.
Choose the right type of lighting

Floodlights, wall lights, separate motion sensors and dusk-to-dawn systems all work differently. We’ll consider the area, desired brightness and how you want the lighting to operate before determining the right setup.
Plan the detection area

Where do you actually want movement detected? We consider entrances, pathways, driveways and the way people approach the property so the sensor can respond where it’s most useful.
Position the lights

The best place to detect movement isn’t always the best place to throw light. We carefully consider the height, direction and position of the fittings to achieve useful coverage without unnecessarily lighting windows, neighbouring properties or areas that don’t need it.
Install the electrical supply

Depending on the existing setup, new cabling, switching or alterations to the electrical circuit may be required. We take care of the electrical work and keep cabling and connections as neat and discreet as practical.
Install the lights and sensors

The fittings are securely installed in appropriate locations. Where separate sensors are being used, these can be positioned independently from the lights to achieve better detection and lighting coverage.
Test the detection zones

This is where we make sure the system actually works in the real world. We test the sensor from relevant approach points and make adjustments where necessary so you’re not left waving your arms around in the dark trying to make the lights turn on.
