At Limelight Electrix, we provide fast, professional consumer mains services to help you stay safe, meet Western Power requirements, and avoid unexpected power issues.

  • Defect notice rectification

Received a defect notice? We quickly inspect, report, and carry out the required repairs or replacements to restore compliance and prevent disconnection.

  • Consumer mains replacement

We replace ageing or overloaded consumer mains with modern, compliant cabling designed to handle today’s electrical demands safely and efficiently.

  • Consumer mains upgrades

If you’re experiencing frequent power trips or adding high-demand appliances, we upgrade your mains to boost capacity and improve performance.

From the supply to the switchboard, we take care of the details

  • Assess your existing electrical supply

We start by inspecting the existing consumer mains, switchboard and electrical supply arrangement. We’ll look at the condition and capacity of the current installation and understand why an upgrade is being considered, whether that’s age, deterioration, a defect or increased electrical demand.

  • Work out what your home needs

Consumer mains need to be appropriately sized for the electrical installation they’re supplying. We consider your existing electrical demand as well as planned additions such as air conditioning, electric cooking, EV charging or other significant electrical upgrades.

  • Plan the new cable route

Every property is different. We determine how the new consumer mains will run between the relevant supply connection and your switchboard, taking into account the existing infrastructure, access and installation requirements.

  • Coordinate the supply work

Depending on the property and type of upgrade, work involving the electricity network may need to be coordinated with Western Power or other relevant parties. We’ll determine what’s required for your particular installation and plan the work accordingly.

  • Safely disconnect the electrical supply

Before the existing consumer mains can be replaced, the electrical supply needs to be safely isolated. Because we’re dealing with the infrastructure supplying electricity to the entire home, this isn’t simply a matter of switching off one circuit at the switchboard.

  • Remove and replace the existing mains

The old or inadequate consumer mains are replaced with appropriately selected cabling and associated equipment. We take care with the cable route, terminations and installation so the work is done properly from one end to the other.

  • Complete any associated switchboard work

A consumer mains upgrade can sometimes go hand-in-hand with changes at the switchboard. If alterations, additional protection or a broader switchboard upgrade are required, these can be incorporated into the work.

  • Test the new installation

Once the electrical work is complete, appropriate testing is carried out before the installation is returned to normal operation. This helps verify the new mains and associated electrical work have been completed correctly.

  • Reconnect the power

Once the required work and testing are complete, the electrical supply can be restored in accordance with the applicable process. We then confirm everything is operating as expected.

  • Certification and final checks

Any required electrical documentation is completed, and we carry out our final checks before considering the job finished.

  • Received a defect notice? Let’s get it sorted.

If a defect notice identifies an issue with your consumer mains, Limelight Electrix can assess the problem, carry out the required electrical work and coordinate with Western Power where required.

  • Power problems can start before the switchboard

Not every electrical problem originates inside your switchboard or somewhere around the home.

If the consumer mains supplying the switchboard are deteriorated, damaged or inadequate, the problem can start further upstream.

  • The main cable doing all the heavy lifting

Your consumer main carries the electricity supplying your entire home into the switchboard.

If it’s ageing, damaged or no longer adequate for your electrical demands, it may be time for an upgrade.

  • More power starts at the source

Adding air conditioning, an EV charger, electric cooking or other high-demand equipment?

Before adding more load, we can assess whether your existing consumer mains are capable of supporting it.

They are professional, knowledgeable, timely, good communicators, friendly, tidy, etc. No, they are not the least expensive option you’ll find out there, but you will most definitely get your money’s worth. They do the job right the first time, use top-notch products and do it all with a smile.  Brad and his team are worth it!

Brad and Levi’s workmanship is thorough and safety is paramount for them. I was extremely impressed that Brad did a safety check as the first thing at the quoting stage.

Brad and Levi are honest and open if you have any follow up queries.
I have already passed on Limelight Electrix details to a family member and wouldn’t hesitate to give their details to anyone who was after a superior Electrician. More than highly recommended!!

    • Would highly recommend Brad and his team for any electrical work.  We have just used Limelight again to complete a variety of work at our recently purchased house, this will be about the fifth time we have used them and every time we cannot fault Brads work.

Whilst you may find cheaper quotes, you won’t find better quality – something we weren’t willing to comprise when dealing with electricity, not to mention presentation of our house.  We had one minor hiccup with a phone line, they were straight back out to resolve it at no cost.  They always call on the way to the job and stick to the agreed times.

      Frequently asked questions

      What are consumer mains?

Consumer mains are the electrical cables that carry electricity from the property’s point of supply to the main switchboard.

While most homeowners rarely see or think about them, they’re a critical part of the electrical installation because the power used throughout the home ultimately passes through them.

Can you fix a consumer mains defect notice?

Where the defect relates to electrical work we’re licensed and able to perform, we can assess the issue and carry out the necessary rectification work.

Depending on the defect and supply arrangement, coordination with Western Power or another relevant party may also be required.

How are consumer mains different from my switchboard?

The consumer mains bring electricity to your main switchboard. The switchboard then distributes that electricity through the various circuits supplying your lights, power points, appliances and other electrical equipment.

A simple way to think about it is: the consumer mains bring the power in; the switchboard sends it where it needs to go.

Why would consumer mains need replacing?

There are several possible reasons. Existing mains may be ageing, damaged, deteriorated, undersized for the property’s electrical demand or unsuitable for planned upgrades.

Replacement may also be required if an electrical defect has been identified.

How do I know if my consumer mains are too small?

This isn’t something most homeowners can determine by looking at the cable.

An electrician can assess the existing consumer mains, electrical supply and expected demand to determine whether the current installation is appropriate or an upgrade should be considered.

Do older Perth homes commonly need consumer mains upgrades?

Older homes can be good candidates for assessment because their electrical requirements may have changed considerably since the original installation. Air conditioning, electric cooking, pools, home offices and other modern electrical loads may have been added over decades while parts of the original supply infrastructure remain.

That doesn’t automatically mean an older home needs new consumer mains, but it’s worth considering when significant electrical upgrades are planned.

Do I need to upgrade my consumer mains for an EV charger?

Not necessarily. It depends on your existing electrical supply, consumer mains, switchboard and overall electrical demand, as well as the charging equipment being considered.

An assessment can determine whether the existing infrastructure can accommodate the additional load or whether upgrades or load-management solutions need to be considered.

Can you upgrade my consumer mains to three-phase power?

Where a three-phase upgrade is appropriate, the project can involve changes to the consumer mains, switchboard and electricity supply arrangements.

It may also require coordination with Western Power. We can assess what you currently have and explain what’s involved in making the change.
